About The Position

The Lifeguard Attendant is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of patrons in the Lap Pool, Therapy Pool, Spa, and the aquatic deck. The Lifeguard must be fluent in the Emergency Response Plan of the center and able to execute those procedures. Additionally, the Lifeguard will enforce pool rules consistently and assist patrons as needed while maintaining safety. The position requires adherence to all policies and procedures set forth in the Aquatics Staff Manual and maintaining a clean and professional appearance.

Requirements

  • Pass a preliminary CPR and swimming test.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid certification.
  • Current CPR/AED Certification for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions to determine potential dangers or hazards.
  • Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions.
  • Ability to judge and evaluate the dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities.
  • Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for exemplary customer service; outgoing, friendly, and compassionate.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health and safety of patrons in the Lap Pool, Therapy Pool, Spa, and Aquatic Decks according to department policies and American Red Cross guidelines.
  • Execute efficient and appropriate emergency response when needed.
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations in a respectful and fair manner, educating patrons on the rationale for the rules when necessary.
  • Assist patrons as needed without compromising the safety of others using the pool(s) and spa.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth in the Aquatics Staff Manual.
  • Maintain the upkeep of all aquatics equipment, including general preventative maintenance and timely service requests.
  • Complete the department’s daily task check sheet routinely.
  • Attend required staff and evaluation meetings as requested.
  • Arrive at least 5 minutes early for assigned shifts and cover all assigned hours.
  • Find an approved substitute if unable to work.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of fitness to efficiently perform all job tasks, including swimming 500 yards per week.
  • Attend to the cleanliness of the pool areas and its equipment.
