About The Position

This is a temporary, part-time, on-call position with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) that will not exceed 19 hours a week. All applications are considered and reviewed, and the most qualified applicants may be invited to participate in the interview/selection process. The District conducts confidential reference checks and requires a criminal background investigation as part of the selection process. Due to the volume of applications, not all applicants will receive an interview.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Completed and passed an Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard course with a certificate or transferable license.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Skill in lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Effective communication skills with staff, students, parents, and patrons.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation.
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular attendance to fulfill duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility and act immediately in emergencies.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment until emergency medical services arrive.
  • Conduct regular chemical tests of water and maintain records as required.
  • Perform maintenance duties to keep the facility clean and safe.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports.
  • Work flexible hours and perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
