About The Position

Life Skills Service Coordinator Program: Residential Reports to: Program Director Hours: Full Time position – salaried exempt MISSION AND NEED: Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 125-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds. General Statement of Duties: The Life Skills Service Coordinator is responsible for preparing a cohort of up to 20 young adults housed by HFI for successful independent living while they are pursuing a post-secondary education or training, enrolled in an apprenticeship program, or engaged in direct to career opportunities. This position supports the housing and transportation arrangements, provides individualized coaching, facilitates group instruction, coordinates related community partnerships, and tracks and reports progress toward goals related to employment, education, and self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, Social Work, Education, Workforce Development, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working with adolescents or young adults in residential, workforce, or human services setting.
  • Experience with employment readiness, career coaching, or life skills instruction.
  • Must have Act 33/34 and FBI clearances and valid PA driver’s license
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards

Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor individualized employment, education, and career plans.
  • Provide instruction and coaching in: o Resume development and job applications o Interview skills and professional communication o Workplace expectations, ethics, and conflict resolution
  • Coordinate internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Maintain relationships with local employers, workforce boards, and training providers.
  • Support residents in enrolling in and maintaining: o Completion of high school or GED o Vocational training or post-secondary education o Certification or credentialing programs
  • Facilitate individual and group life skills instruction, including: Budgeting, banking, and financial education Time management and organization Housing readiness and tenant responsibilities
  • Support residents in practicing life skills within the residential setting.
  • Collaborate with case managers, therapists, and residential staff to support service plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with agency, county, and state requirements.
  • Track outcomes at admission, throughout the residents stay, and at discharge or voluntary departure. (i.e., employment, education, and skill attainment)
  • Coordinate workshops, guest speakers, and career events.
  • Assist with program evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Support residents in accessing community resources and supports.
  • Promote a trauma-informed and culturally responsive environment.
  • Promotes the Mission and Philosophy of Holy Family Institute.
  • Participates in all required agency and regulatory trainings within expected time frame.
  • Works collaboratively with staff, children, families, service providers, and others.
  • Promptly reports civil or criminal convictions, charges, arrests, investigations, or adjudications that may arise since staff member’s last background investigation. This includes but is not limited to sexual abuse in a prison, jail, holding facility, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, other institution (as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997), or care provider facility; conviction of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or who was civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in such activity.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
