About The Position

The Life Skills Coach will work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team at the Lavergne House Transitional Living Program (TLP). This role involves providing life skills training to youth in care, including crisis intervention, case stabilization, and daily living skills. The staff member will participate in team meetings, document activities in youth case files, and assist with developing individualized goals and objectives for the youth.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of legal, addiction, and mental illness issues related to the population served.
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care.

  • Fast, accurate documentation skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, individual clients, and groups.
  • Desire to learn new skills.
  • Knowledge of community and social service agencies.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation methods or willingness to be trained.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college in psychology or a related field, or at least 5 years' experience in Social Services.
  • Experience in writing and implementing treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of computer usage and associated software.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate ideas to supervisors, peers, and clients using written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
  • Maintain a positive and productive work environment for clients.
  • Utilize conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to address issues.
  • Develop problem and goal lists and aftercare plans for youth.
  • Assist with identifying potential conflicts and implementing crisis intervention techniques.
  • Transport or facilitate transportation of youth in care as needed.
  • Document client sessions, planning, and progress accurately.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations.
  • Assist youth in navigating community resources.
  • Develop, implement, and train using life and daily living skills curricula.
  • Propose and implement activities that foster wellness for program youth.
  • Attend required meetings, committees, and trainings.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and agency training programs.
  • Provide coordination and linkage with community agencies for enhanced care.
