About The Position

ID#8205R - The DHS Interim Life Skills Aide will be responsible for providing direct service to DHS/Interim Housing participants to ensure safety, assist clients with their immediate basic needs and participate in the promotion of life skills training and development to support participant readiness for permanent housing opportunities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Maintains positive work relationships in a respectful and professional manner. Exercises efficient and effective communication with other staff in order to ensure quality participant care. Performs all duties and responsibilities utilizing a compassion/trauma informed approach and in accordance with all Center guidelines, policies and procedures. Demonstrates sensitivity to working with a culturally diverse population. Participates in crisis intervention and conflict resolution within scope of position to monitor for safety and determine need for further evaluation by the participants’ treatment team, on-call DHS staff member and/or emergency/911 resource as appropriate and/or directed by Interim Housing Manager or Director. Provides on-going monitoring of participant activity in hallways, communal areas and participant bedrooms to ensure safety and participant adherence to Interim Housing rules and guidelines. Conduct daily checks of participant bedrooms, refrigerators and cupboards. Serves as a role model for participants. Actively promotes and supports participant skills building for appropriate expression of emotion, needs, self-advocacy, problem solving and conflict resolution. Orients new participants to Interim Housing rules and guidelines to build rapport and support successful transition to permanent housing Provides direct support and assistance as needed to support participant move-in. Completes timely and accurate shift reports, behavioral observation reports and/or incident reports for submission to Interim Housing Manager and fellow residential staff to support continuity of care. Participates in the monitoring and maintaining inventory of basic needs, food, and cleaning supplies. Participates in completing shopping errands to maintain inventory of necessary supplies as needed. Leads weekly Life Skills groups and trainings to support and promote participant well-being, mental wellness and life skill building to promote participant readiness for permanent housing opportunities. Participates in all weekly participant Interim Housing house meeting and quarterly Residential Staff meetings. Will lead weekly participant Interim Housing house meetings in the absence of the Residential Manager. Attends and successfully completes all trainings required by the Center, Department of Health Services (DHS) or other federal state and/or local regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience working in mental health or human services field preferred. (Includes Public Social service field).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must maintain standards of confidentiality in accordance with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and related state law confidentiality requirements.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills; be able to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully with minimal guidance.
  • Must have a good driving record and be insurable by the Center’s insurance company.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in business English both verbally and in writing.
  • Present to work in business casual attire consistent with Center dress code.

Nice To Haves

  • College education experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual language capability preferred.
