The Life Skills Advocate (LSA/DSP) plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, empowering them to achieve optimal independence. This position involves providing direct support and positive direction to members in accordance with program policies, procedures, and DDD standards. The LSA/DSP is responsible for assisting members with their daily activities, monitoring and implementing their daily activity schedules, and teaching safety awareness. Additionally, the advocate documents each member's progress in alignment with their Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals and participates in community engagement activities as well as program location-based activities. The overarching goal of the Life Skills Advocate is to facilitate all necessary actions to ensure the success of program members while realizing the mission and vision of One Step Beyond, Inc. The role requires a compassionate approach, as the LSA/DSP must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to implement practices that ensure safe supervision of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The advocate must also maintain a good driving record, as transportation of program members to and from activities is a key responsibility. The position is available in various locations including Glendale, Surprise, and Avondale, and offers both full-time and part-time opportunities. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of experience working with individuals requiring compassionate care. The LSA/DSP is expected to model appropriate behavior management techniques and communicate effectively with members and their families to maintain positive relationships and advocate for the members' needs. This role is integral to the growth and development of program members, ensuring their welfare is prioritized in all support and instructional activities.
