About The Position

As a Life Sciences Underwriting Trainee on the Berkley Life Science's Underwriting Team, you are offered the opportunity to support the team assessing risks and determining coverage for life science companies. This entry-level role provides a comprehensive introduction to the property and casualty underwriting field within the life sciences sector. You will gain hands-on experience, receive training, and develop skills essential for a successful underwriting career. The candidate will attend the WRB Trainee school held in Westbrook, Maine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree acquired by June 2026 or prior
  • Knowledgeable and proficient with Microsoft Professional products in addition to Internet search capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment: Assist in evaluating risks associated with life science companies, including laboratories, pharmaceutical firms, and medical device manufacturers.
  • Underwriting Support: Aid in the preparation of underwriting documentation and reports. Review and analyze risk information to support underwriting decisions.
  • Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to policies, claims, and industry trends to assist in underwriting processes.
  • Client Interaction: Support the team in communicating with clients and brokers to gather necessary information and address queries.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all underwriting practices comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Training and Development: Participate in training programs to build expertise in life science property and casualty underwriting. Much of this training is held in Westbrook, Maine.
