GBA's Life Sciences team is seeking a Life Sciences Architect to support projects at our Lenexa, Kansas office. Join our team of architects and engineers serving biopharmaceutical and industrial manufacturers, CDMOs, and advanced therapy companies through every phase of facility development, from conceptual planning and detailed design to construction support.

Requirements

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch, M.Arch, or NAAB-equivalent).
  • 5+ years of architectural experience in an A&E firm environment.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, cell & gene therapy, or lab design preferred.
  • High proficiency in Revit, MS Office Suite, and Bluebeam; AutoCAD a plus.
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Enscape, Twinmotion, or Navisworks.
  • Understanding of OSHA, ADA, and International Building Codes.
  • Ability to develop accurate as-built documentation during construction.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills for client interface.
  • Proven success working within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and maintain high-quality output.
  • Demonstrated capability to support senior architects while executing work independently.
  • Willingness for moderate travel (1020%) for projects, training, and client engagements.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure: Architectural license in good standing with ability for NCARB reciprocal licensure
  • Certifications: LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar sustainability credentials
  • Process Integration: Understanding of process equipment integration and facility flow optimization for manufacturing environments
  • Specialized Experience: Direct experience with biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, cleanrooms, and sterile processing environments
  • Regulatory Expertise: Familiarity with cGMP standards, FDA regulations, and pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior architects with complex life sciences and industrial facility design projects.
  • Perform detailed architectural design based on conceptual direction and project requirements.
  • Develop and coordinate architectural plans, elevations, sections, technical details, and construction documents.
  • Support reviews of architectural drawings for quality, accuracy, standards, and code compliance.
  • Assist with programming and analysis of pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, R&D, and industrial spaces.
  • Collaborate with process, MEP, structural engineers, interior designers, and construction teams.
  • Work closely with process architects to ensure workflow efficiency, safety, and scalability of facility layouts.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, regulatory discussions, and project presentations.
  • Incorporate sustainability, value engineering, and lifecycle considerations into design solutions.
  • Support QA/QC processes for architectural deliverables and maintain high-quality documentation.
