About The Position

Teaching 30 units per year as assigned, some of which may include off-campus classes, including classes on more than one campus during a given semester. Classes taught may consist of a variety of biology courses including Freshman Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Teaching 30 units per year as assigned, some of which may include off-campus classes, including classes on more than one campus during a given semester. A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per semester is typical, teaching assignments may include various times, days, sites (high schools, outreach centers, multiple campuses), and with various formats (face-to-face, on-line, hybrid, etc.). Responsible for setting up all labs and maintaining all lab supplies including bacterial cultures for microbiology. Maintaining posted office hours as per departmental/college policies. Engaging in curriculum development with the College. Advising students or student clubs. Attending College Commencement. During the balance of the weekly time available, participating in professional activities that may include, but not limited to, the following: committee work, community services, maintenance of professional expertise, interacting with students and perspective students, cooperating with other educational institutions, cooperating with business and industry, and working with part-time faculty. The individual will maintain cooperative relationships with the Dean of Academic Affairs, Division Coordinator, Division faculty, other faculty and the college and service communities. Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms other related duties as required. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Biology or related field, which includes at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biology required and teaching experience.
  • Effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations
  • Proficient in word-processing and presentation software, internet, and e-mail
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students
  • Capability to teach in more than one discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to advise students
  • Effective verbal, written , and listening communication skills

  • Ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules
