About The Position

The Lifeguard position involves working in conjunction with the Swimming Pool Manager to maintain a safe and clean environment at the Kirtland/Shiprock Swimming Pool. The primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of patrons while swimming and to assist in keeping the facility clean and sanitary. Lifeguards may also be required to obtain a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificate to teach swimming lessons. This role requires effective communication with co-workers and respect for patrons, as well as compliance with various regulations and policies.

Requirements

• Lifeguard Certificate
• First Aid/ CPR/ AED certified
• Must at least be 16 years of age
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or assigned designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred
• Good communication skills and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Keep patrons safe while swimming at the facilities.
• Help keep the facility clean, sanitary, and safe.
• May be asked to obtain a WSI certificate to teach swimming lessons.
• Communicate respect with other co-workers.
• Maintain respect for patrons and those visiting the facility.
• Maintain a current lifeguard certificate at all times.
• Maintain a safe work environment.
• Attend all required professional development activities.
• Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines, and local, state and federal laws.
• Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position.
