About The Position

The position involves supervising security and control activities within a correctional facility, ensuring maximum coordination in prisoner supervision and safety. The role includes the preparation of required records and reports, as well as the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the custody, security, and treatment of detainees and inmates. The supervisor will respond to major unusual occurrences, facilitate assistance to detainees in cases of injury or emotional trauma, and promote a positive atmosphere for personal development among detainees and staff. Additionally, the supervisor will direct the work of other employees, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and handling disciplinary actions. The role requires frequent inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, as well as preparing records and reports as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a correctional setting, with one (1) year in a supervisory role.
  • Must be mature, flexible, and able to command respect from detainees/inmates and staff.
  • Supervisory Officers must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a detention officer and two (2) years of successful experience in field supervision.
  • Must have resided within the United States or its territories for the last five (5) years.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

  • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises security/control activities and staff in an assigned area.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and regulations for custody, security, and treatment of detainees/inmates.
  • Responds to major unusual occurrences and facilitates assistance to detainees/inmates in case of injury, illness, or emotional trauma.
  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to personality and character development of detainees/inmates and staff.
  • Directs the work of other employees, including selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, and training.
  • Makes assignments, reviews post orders, and ensures staff is trained in emergency procedures.
  • Reviews disciplinary matters concerning staff and detainees.
  • Conducts frequent physical inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Prepares records and reports as assigned by management and maintains daily logs.
  • Responsible for attaining facility goals/objectives and ensuring compliance with security operations.
