About The Position

To command and direct the entire investigative section and operational section of the Department of Public Safety Department at the University of Detroit Mercy. The training and educating the entire Department of Public Safety and University community through active seminars, and consistent enforcement of all City, State, Federal Laws and University Policy and Procedures. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of position.

Requirements

  • A college degree.
  • Five years to seven years of experience (Equivalent combination of education and employment).
  • MCOLES Certified or Certifiable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all personnel are properly trained in the performance of their related job, while monitoring and evaluating their performance, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure that all shifts and events are appropriately staffed and that all personnel are briefed on situations and conditions, which require their attention.
  • Respond to situations, of a high profile in nature, which necessitates the presence of a Lieutenant for immediate and crucial decisions.
  • Review all reports on a daily basis and ensure that all incidents are investigated and proper reports are generated with the appropriate corrective actions.
  • Monitor crime trends and prepare reports for statistical purposes and to eliminate opportunities or foreseeable risks.
  • Consistent update and review of all departmental policy, procedures and practices to ensure the departmental strives to meet and achieve their goals and objections.
  • Enforce all city, State, and Federal Laws and University Policies and Procedures.
