About The Position

Direct the operations of the District police services to ensure a safe environment for students and staff and coordinate activities with other department directors and campus principals. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of police personnel. Develop and implement programs, technology management plans, and other safety programs in cooperation with other staff, including working with the Emergency Management Division to develop emergency plans and services for the District. Investigate and make recommendations on all complaints and accusations made against District police officers or support staff. Oversee the implementation of the drug detection canine program by coordinating the weekly activities of the canine handlers within District policy and budget. Supervise the Sergeants over the various Police Department functions to include, Communications, patrol, campus, investigative, alarm, and CCTV functions of the Police Department. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required as Custodian of Video Records and honor subpoenas as received. Manage the District’s ID Access Rights and badging systems by developing standards and procedures to ensure district safety. Manage the District’s Life Safety Systems department which includes all alarm, access control, and security camera systems. Participate on committees and task forces as a District representative as directed. Participate with the Transportation Department on the Crash Overview Board to determine fault and consequences of District motor vehicle accidents. Evaluate the job performance of police employees and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Supervises the Sergeant for Training in the development of training options and improvement plans to ensure the effective operation of the police officers and security officers. Prepare, review, and revise police department job descriptions for police officers. Coordinate all police support services for annual high school graduations. Coordinate, train, issue equipment and deploy Crossing Guards at eligible elementary schools. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or Captain. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or certified GED required.
  • Must have a valid Peace Officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) with Advanced Peace Officer Certification.
  • Consideration will not be given to a TCOLE license or license from another state with a General Discharge, Dishonorable Discharge, or the equivalent notation from previous law enforcement jobs.
  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to Texas standards for school bus drivers.
  • Overall knowledge of police operations in a Police Department.
  • Ability to manage budget items and personnel
  • Ability to write police reports, incident reports, and other reports as required.
  • Bondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h).
  • Strong communication, public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Five (5) years experience in a law enforcement Supervisory or Command capacity.
  • Must show negative on a drug and/or alcohol test to be given on a pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and District policy.
