The Licensing and Royalty Accountant is responsible for ensuring royalty reports and payments are processed accurately and timely. This role is responsible for ensuring that the contract and royalty systems are always updated so that calculations and reporting of royalties are accurate. The Licensing and Royalty Accountant reconciles all royalty general ledger accrued balances and provides financial information to Account Payables for processing payments to licensors. This role works closely with internal and external business partners. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working in a similar and fast paced environment.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, data organization, and report design.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workloads, and manage multiple time‑sensitive tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to question existing processes and recommend improvements.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity in handling financial data and contractual information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting or finance experience, ideally in a similar environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft D365 and other ERP systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing royalties, licensing, contract compliance, or similar accounting functions (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Report all required information to licensors and ensure contract management and royalty systems are updated with accurate payments and deliverables.
  • Prepare and process monthly and quarterly royalty statements.
  • Prepare and record monthly accruals.
  • Create monthly royalty cash forecasts for the FP&A team.
  • Maintain accurate, complete files and documentation in alignment with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Collaborate with external licensors on required monthly/quarterly sales reports, online submissions, and any issues or inquiries.
  • Partner with the internal licensing department and operational teams (Embroidery, Customer Service, etc.) to ensure compliance with all contractual agreements.
  • Assist with onboarding new contracts and updating existing contracts in the contract management and royalty systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline processes, and recommend or implement enhancements.
  • Maintain compliance and documentation demonstrating adherence to internal controls and policies.
  • Support royalty audits by coordinating internal responses to auditor requests.
  • Contribute to various non-routine projects, analyses, and ad‑hoc reporting.
