The LVN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate and focused nursing care to assigned patients with predictable health care needs, utilizing the principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other health team members. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 30 days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment. This must be obtained prior to providing patient care.
  • IV certification for acute care and ER/FED assignments (Med/Surg, Critical Care, Emergency Room/FED).
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and others.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress.
  • Ability to respond to pages.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
  • Bending, lifting (25 lbs. minimum), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
  • Able to identify appropriate data and interprets its significance to clinical and operational activities.

Responsibilities

  • The LVN assists in determining the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of culturally ethnically, and socially diverse patients and their families based on interpretation of health-related data.
  • The LVN collects data and information, recognizes changes in conditions ad reports this to the RN or charge nurse.
  • The LVN cannot perform independent assessments as the LVN has a directed scope of practice under supervision.
  • The LVN participates in the nursing process by appraising the individual patient’s status or situation at hand.
  • Also known as a focused assessment, this appraisal may be a component of a more comprehensive assessment performed by an RN.
  • The LVN will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions.
  • The LVN will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies.
  • The LPN will comply with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co-workers, patients, and visitors.
  • The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.
  • Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance of management, clinical, and/or support services.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance as related to The Joint Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Texas Board of Nursing.
