The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct clinical support to medical providers (Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants) within the LVN scope of practice. This role includes patient care, clinical procedures, and administrative tasks to ensure efficient clinic operations. The LVN is responsible for accurate documentation in Electronic Health Records (EHR), assisting with patient flow, and anticipating provider needs to maximize productivity. The LVN plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients of all ages while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and clinic regulations. This position supports the mission of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) by promoting accessible, affordable, and culturally competent healthcare for underserved populations.

Requirements

  • Current California LVN license.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience preferred (family practice or primary care setting ideal).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record systems.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, and presenting symptoms.
  • Assist with patient screenings and preventive health practices.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and injections as ordered by providers.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and other nursing procedures.
  • Provide patient education on medications, treatments, and health maintenance.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare, set up, and clean exam rooms and medical equipment.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens.
  • Monitor patient responses and promptly report findings to providers.
  • Document all patient care accurately in EHR systems.
  • Ensure adherence to FQHC compliance standards, including safety, confidentiality, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain equipment records and monitor medical supply inventory.
  • Anticipate provider needs to facilitate patient flow and maximize productivity.
  • Support overall clinic efficiency through coordination of care and workflow management.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new staff and externship students.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, confidentiality, attendance, punctuality, and professional appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
