About The Position

HealthRIGHT 360, a nonprofit organization and a family of programs, is committed to providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare services to vulnerable populations. Our mission is to tackle systemic barriers to healthcare and promote health equity for all. We offer a wide range of services, including mental health care, residential and outpatient substance use treatment, and primary health services. Additionally, we provide transitional support for individuals re-entering the community after involvement in the criminal justice system. By integrating physical and behavioral health, we empower individuals to overcome challenges by addressing social determinants of health, fostering resilience, and facilitating recovery. The Martin Luther King Jr. Behavioral Health Center (MLK BHC) is a program of HealthRIGHT 360 and is contracted with the Department of Public Health's Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program. MLK BHC offers residential Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) services for a maximum of 99 adult individuals, comprising 33 beds each for judicially involved men, men, and women. MLK BHC collaborates closely with other Behavioral Health Center programs to ensure a comprehensive range of services for low-income and Medi-Cal-eligible individuals. Situated on the Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital campus in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, the program serves residents of all Los Angeles County. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) assesses, and monitors clients admitted for Residential and Withdrawal Management Programs. LVN provides care in accordance with treatment objectives under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse Manager. The LVN displays professional boundaries and standards, maintains cultural sensitivity at all times, treats all clients with respect, care, and concern, and works with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible treatment outcome for our clients.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited LVN program.
  • Current LVN licensure in California.
  • Valid BLS Certification and First Aid Certification.
  • Valid California driver’s license and access to registered and insured transportation.
  • Experience and commitment to working with diverse communities.
  • Experience working with dual diagnosis populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing experience in a residential substance abuse treatment or withdrawal management setting, community mental health, behavioral health, or recovery treatment center preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care plan.
  • Oversee the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of clients admitted for Residential and Withdrawal Management programs.
  • Provide timely updates and status reports to the Physician for clients receiving withdrawal management, MAT, and/or with co-occurring mental disorders.
  • Facilitate referrals to outside medical providers/facilities for medical clearance, TB tests or treatment when indicated.
  • Facilitate filling of client prescriptions, and work with pharmacy to ensure medications are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Monitor client care and treatment.
  • Take and record accurate vital signs.
  • Assist with blood draws.
  • Assess and report on client behavioral changes.
  • Interact with clients to support their participation in the program.
  • Assist with orientation, admission, transfer, and discharge of clients.
  • Collaborate with other team members to coordinate patient care and address any needs or concerns.
  • Complete random and scheduled client UA tests and documents test results.
  • Transport clients as needed.
  • Perform periodic facility checks to ensure and maintain the safety and security of the facility.
  • Observe universal precautions, including correct handling of blood borne pathogens, storage of lab specimens, and disposal of infectious wastes.
  • Audit medication room and destroy medications as needed per policy.
  • Coordinate the collection of Sharps container and medical waste and maintain log.
  • Document client treatment progress, incident reports, and medical follow ups.
  • Complete all required paperwork, charting, records maintenance in a timely manner when providing direct services.
  • Submit program and contractual reporting and documentation requirement in a timely manner.
  • Maintain medication book for compliance with all funder requirements and update monthly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation, adhering to regulatory and HealthRIGHT 360’s standards.
  • Provide clerical support as assigned.
  • Assist with creation of agency policies and procedures regarding medication and medical issues.
  • Identify, report, and assist with the management of emergencies, and submit Incident Reports.
  • Complete assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Participate and attend meetings as assigned and as needed.
  • Arrange work schedule according to program needs.
  • Read and respond to emails and messages when appropriate.
  • And perform other duties as assigned.
