About The Position
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (Safety) will be directed by the Unit Supervisor, and led by the Registered Nurse Shift Lead, Senior Psychiatric Technician, or Health Services Specialist depending on the shift/program assigned at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for creating a clean, safe and therapeutic environment for patients or inmates, applying mental health principles, supervising patient activities, and performing nursing procedures such as administering medications (except intravenous and intrathecal). The role also involves observing patients' physical conditions and behaviors, reporting significant changes, performing custody tasks, and intervening in patient behavior that may pose risks. The position requires knowledge in the prevention and management of assaultive behavior, including patient containment and responding to emergencies.
