Job Description Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care within their scope of practice in a substance use treatment setting. Duties include supporting client care through monitoring, basic clinical assessments, documentation, and coordination with clinical and medical staff. The LVN assists with gathering intake information, monitoring clients’ physical status, and documenting observations that support treatment planning. The LVN collaborates with licensed clinicians and registered/certified counseling staff to ensure accurate and timely documentation and to support the determination of medical necessity for new and continuing clients. The LVN may assist in reviewing charts for completeness, tracking treatment progress, and communicating any medical or behavioral concerns to the supervising RN, LPHA, or program leadership. While the LVN does not diagnose or independently determine level of care, they play a critical role in supporting the clinical team by providing nursing observations that contribute to assessments based on ASAM Criteria and other treatment guidelines. The LVN promotes a safe and therapeutic environment, supports medication services as permitted under their license, and contributes to overall client engagement and quality of care within the program.
