About The Position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN / LPN) – Behavioral Health provides direct nursing care and clinical support to pediatric and adolescent patients in a behavioral health inpatient setting. Working with patients between the ages of 5–17 , the nurse supports the multidisciplinary healthcare team by assisting with patient care activities, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to patient safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced behavioral health unit.

Requirements

  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license .
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience .
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents (ages 5–17) .
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient care skills.
  • Ability to perform patient care tasks with minimal supervision in an acute care environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in an inpatient behavioral health or psychiatric setting .
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Experience working in pediatric or adolescent behavioral health units.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to child and adolescent behavioral health patients in an acute care environment.
  • Assist with patient intake by greeting patients, directing them to exam rooms, and preparing them for evaluation or treatment.
  • Measure, record, and monitor vital signs and patient health indicators .
  • Assist physicians and registered nurses during examinations and clinical procedures.
  • Prepare clinical supplies and treatment trays for injections and procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed and within scope of practice.
  • Observe patient behavior, responses to treatment, and report changes to the supervising nurse or physician.
  • Implement nursing care activities according to established patient care plans under the direction of the supervising nurse.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Assist with patient scheduling, documentation preparation, and other clinical administrative tasks as needed.
  • Coordinate with insurance providers to obtain authorizations for procedures and treatments when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms and clinical areas.
  • Participate in unit activities related to patient safety, care coordination, and unit operations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support high-quality patient care.
