About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring a skilled Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our thriving Surgery department in Midtown Manhattan! This position is eligible for up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus. Join our skilled surgical team and play a vital role in delivering advanced care to our patients. As a Surgery LVT, you'll assist with diagnostics like X-rays, ultrasound, and biopsies while supporting orthopedic and soft tissue procedures, ensuring each patient receives a tailored treatment plan. Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential.
  • Experience in a veterinary surgical setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia protocols.
  • Ability to perform physical exams and monitor vital signs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • VTS credentialing.
  • Experience with advanced anesthetic skills.
  • Familiarity with medical math and intravenous fluid management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
  • Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
  • Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Comfortable with medical math.
  • Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
  • Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
