About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a skilled Relief Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team in Downtown Manhattan, NY. As a Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia in patients, as well as using anesthesia and monitoring equipment. You will triage emergency cases, perform digital radiography, and have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs. Your role will also include obtaining and interpreting vital signs, identifying patients at risk for arrest, and initiating CPR. You will be proficient in performing phlebotomy, placing intravenous catheters, and maintaining feeding tubes and central line catheters. Additionally, you will have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers and addressing client concerns with patience and empathy.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) certification
  • Experience in veterinary medicine
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed

  • VTS credentialing
  • Experience with emergency and critical care cases

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Mentor and train other co-workers.
  • Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
