About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Downtown Manhattan is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency team on Fridays. The position requires working on Fridays from 7am to 7pm, with a pay range of $30.00 to $51.00 per hour, plus competitive shift differentials. This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience. We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends, with specific differentials based on a 4-hour minimum.

Requirements

• Licensed Veterinary Technician certification.
• Experience in emergency veterinary care.
• Ability to work on Fridays from 7am to 7pm.

Nice To Haves

• VTS credentialing.
• Experience with anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Proficiently perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
