About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technician to work in our Neurology Department. Our 20,000-square-foot hospital underwent a full remodel of the ICU and reception entrance completed in summer 2022. The remodel of the ICU now houses a brand-new CT (64 slice). The hospital also houses an on-site MRI, full complement of orthopedic surgical equipment, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and arthroscopy. This hospital has an internal medicine service with state-of-the-art endoscopy, ultrasound, and complete ancillary radiographic diagnostic capabilities. Rich in culture and history, Richmond, the River City, serves as the capital city of Virginia. Situated along the James River, the city has played a critical role in both state and national history. The sprawling metropolitan area is home to both world-class restaurants and little-known, but well-loved cafes and diners. With a population of over 200,000, the city has seen an urban renewal in recent years with numerous breweries, boutiques, shops, rooftop bars, and music venues calling Richmond home. Kayaking, biking, walking trails, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Richmond, and numerous museums are other great reasons to enjoy Richmond. Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
