About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and ICU team. As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia in patients, triaging emergency cases, performing digital radiography, and obtaining and interpreting vital signs. You will also be involved in calculating medical math, administering medications, and mentoring other co-workers. Requirements

• Licensed Veterinary Technician certification.
• Experience in emergency and critical care veterinary medicine.
• Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
• Proficiency in digital radiography.
• Experience in mentoring or training staff.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
