About The Position

Are you a Licensed Veterinary Technician looking to grow your career in a dynamic and supportive environment? BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NY is seeking a skilled & compassionate LVT to join our team. As a Discharge Veterinary Technician, you will organize and manage the discharges for the Emergency service and help facilitate discharges for other services when available. You will be comfortable with discussing basic to intermediate discharge care instructions and facilitate client questions regarding post-operative care. You will assist the ER team with triage of emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. You will perform digital radiography as needed using proper technique including proper positioning of patients. You will have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. You will obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert the Veterinarian to changes and issues. You will identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR. You will properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration. You will be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels. You will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in stable patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment for minor procedures. You will have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers and have the patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
  • Experience in veterinary emergency care.
  • Ability to perform medical math and administer medications.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters.
  • Understanding of anesthesia monitoring and recovery.

Nice To Haves

  • VTS credentialing.
  • Experience in mentoring and training.
