About The Position

The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) at ACC plays a crucial role in providing medical and surgical care to animals in the shelter. This position involves managing treatment plans for hospitalized patients, performing diagnostics, administering medications, and leading the surgery team. The LVT must be a self-starter with critical thinking skills, working both independently and as part of a team to ensure quality medical care for all animals. Flexibility to work at different ACC locations may be required.

Requirements

• Must be licensed to practice veterinary technology in NYS.
• Associates or bachelor's degree in veterinary technology or foreign equivalent recognized by NYS.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
• Dependable, reliable, and efficient.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working in shelters preferred but not required.
• Willingness to apply for euthanasia technician certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the provision of medical and surgical care of animals in the shelter.
• Manage treatment plans for hospitalized patients.
• Perform diagnostics including x-rays and in-house laboratory tests.
• Obtain samples such as blood and swabs.
• Administer medications via all routes.
• Lead the surgery team.
