About The Position

The Licensed Urgent Walk-In Manager provides clinical support and coordinates psychosocial screening and services for BPSR clients, and performs other related work including screening, assessment, referral, resource development, transition, and discharge planning. The Licensed Urgent Walk-In Manager supervises the Urgent Walk-In Department including Mental Health Clinicians, Peer Support Specialists, and Masters level interns.

Requirements

  • Clinical assessment of clients with severe mental illness and substance use disorders, principles and practices of clinical mental health triage and walk in service models; BPSR guidelines and ASAM guidelines, principles of care, and recovery treatment modalities; Brief solution-focused recovery mental health services model; Quality assurance principles and practices
  • Evaluate and diagnose clients’ mental health condition using the DSM V-TR diagnostic criteria
  • Current trends and issues in the field of behavioral health care
  • Evidence-based practices and issues pertaining to psychosocial treatments for SUD, Motivational Interviewing, and Relapse Prevention.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population and knowledge of cultural issues, values, & beliefs of the target population of adults w/ SMI, homelessness, co-occurring disorders, and criminogenic risks and needs, relevant to providing appropriate BPSR program services
  • Clinical assessment of clients with severe mental illness, counseling theory, and clinical care coordination principles, and best practices, cultural and socio-economic issues relevant to providing appropriate rehabilitation and recovery services to special population groups, including Latino, African American, and LGBTQIA+ communities, human behavior and the social environment
  • Exercise sound, expert independent judgment within general policy guidelines
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Operate a computer using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions primarily in English from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public; demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • A typical way of obtaining the necessary experience and training is by obtaining a Master’s Degree from an accredited university, plus license mandatory and if not licensed, registration (Mandatory) with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in one of the following: Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT); or Clinical Social Worker (ACSW); Licensed LMFT or LCSW preferred, pay would vary and Must have their licensure within 6 months of hire-probation period.
  • Must have a valid and active LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD or PhD license issued by the state of California.
  • Must be willing and able to use personal vehicle to transport clients.
  • A Valid Driver’s License with current California automobile insurance
  • A Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • A Valid Tuberculosis Blood (TB) test and maintained every four years

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed LMFT or LCSW preferred, pay would vary
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred. Bilingual candidates will be required to pass a bilingual competency test prior to their hire date.
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in a substance use/mental health setting, experience with motivational interviewing and different therapeutic approaches, experience with mental health diagnoses, experience working with Latino and African-American and two years of leadership experienced preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates urgent walk-in clinic and field services to include the assessment and screening for mental health and substance use disorder treatment programs
  • Interviews and screens potential clients, completes initial screening assessments and provides warm handoff to referred for services
  • Performs necessary services and/or ensures that services or treatments are provided as directed by service
  • Participates during on-call and weekend clinical rotation shifts
  • Provides direct clinical care to clients as required
  • Performs crisis intervention
  • Documents client progress and performs various other administrative functions associated with the urgent walk-in component
  • Serves as advocate for client with external agencies
  • Acts as a resource and builds alliances with the internal care coordination team and external resources, assists in building referral partnerships, and makes appropriate referrals for necessary or requested services
  • Participates in multidisciplinary treatment teams and coordinates care with other program staff
  • Discusses client progress and/or problems with program staff and professionals and, when appropriate, recommends solutions within scope of responsibility and expertise
  • Creates and maintains Urgent walk-in schedules and assigns coverage to staff, interns and/or volunteers
  • Oversees the coordination of care and referral of clients to BPSR and/or SUD Treatment Program
  • Supervises, train sand/or monitors work performance of assigned staff
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
