Position Summary At the direction of the Security Sergeant/Officer in Charge, the Security Officer assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors by monitoring facilities, responding to incidents in a timely manner and ensuring safety policies are followed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and minimum two years of security experience required.
  • Must have and maintain NYS Security License.
  • A valid Driver's License is required effective 1/1/2026; Employees hired prior to this date will be grandfathered in.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • De-escalation and restraint training are required to be completed within the probationary period.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior security experience and some college credits preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  • Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position, utilizing security policies and procedure via PolicyTech.
  • Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current department and Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings or equivalent to update knowledge related to current department and hospital issues.
  • Attends in-service, Net Learning as required/requested to update knowledge.
  • Completes annual department and hospital competency requirements.
  • Ability to observe and report unusual activity.
  • Ability to investigate and report incidents.
  • Ability to verbalize tour events and unusual activities to the supervisor and others.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
