InGenesis is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - Internal Medicine to join our team supporting Brooke Army Medical Center. Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing-approved LPN/LVN training program or completion of equivalent military training that permits licensure.
  • License: Current, active, unrestricted LVN license from any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association or Red Cross approved. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association or Red Cross approved
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience in the past three (3) years in the assigned specialty. Must meet all continuing education and competency requirements per DHA and BAMC policies.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies, including walking or jogging to provide assistance.
  • May be required to assist patients with mobility and evacuation during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical duties equivalent to military or government civil service nurses of similar experience within the same unit.
  • Insert intravenous catheters and perform phlebotomy and arterial blood draws with mandated training.
  • Manage care for advanced procedures involving high infection risks and life support equipment.
  • Execute direct patient care, including range of motion, lifting, positioning, personal hygiene, and feeding.
  • Ensure proper procedures for the tissue/skin bank and blood bank.
  • Obtain patient/family history and advanced medical directive information.
  • Observe, assess, and record symptoms and reactions using BAMC/WHASC documentation standards.
  • Develop and implement age-specific plans of instruction for patients and families.
  • Monitor and interpret data collected by CNAs and unlicensed personnel.
  • Administer medications (IV, oral, subcutaneous, etc.) and monitor blood product administration.
  • Administer IV push medications after completing the BAMC Hospital Education course (noting LVNs shall not start blood transfusions).
  • Verify transcription of physician orders and communicate information to charge nurses.
  • React with skill in emergency situations, such as cardiac arrest or trauma, and initiate life-saving measures in the absence of a physician.
  • Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings and operate equipment like defibrillators and EKG machines.
  • Maintain composure when relating to distraught, irritable, or angry individuals.
  • Provide professional oversight for CNAs and unlicensed ancillary personnel.
  • Serve as a team lead, assist with clinical orientation, or act as a project officer as designated by leadership.
  • Redistribute personnel resources based on workload and unforeseen patient needs.
  • Participate in nursing reports, conferences, and discharge planning.
