About The Position

VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to serve in our Surgery Specialty Clinic VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: https://youtube.com/embed/Ae85IP1Oiz4 Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: LPN will perform nursing care based on the use of the nursing process and applies National Patient Safety Goals. LPN safely performs nursing procedures using scientific principles and follows Medical Center Policies and acceptable practice standards. LPN will maintain effective communication channels with patients and co-workers. LPN will maintain professional responsibilities related to work assignment including reporting promptly for scheduled tours, maintaining professional relationships with patients and colleagues, and demonstrating flexibility with assignment and schedules. LPN is responsible for providing adequate follow up care if a blood pressure is elevated per clinical practice guidelines by obtaining a second blood pressure reading and documenting correctly in the EHR during that Veterans visit. LPN is responsible for documenting all appropriate clinical reminders and preventative health screens that are appropriate and due for the Veteran at each visit. LPN is responsible for completing non-urgent alerts within 2 business days unless unforeseen circumstances occur. LPN is responsible for completing their open clinical encounters and clinical notes within 7 business days unless unforeseen circumstances occur. LPN is responsible for responding to secure messages in my HealtheVet within 3 business days. LPN will provide advice and assistance to internal and external customers in a timely manner, typically within 2 business days. LPN maintains exam rooms with equipment and supplies and will discard outdated items and will remove any equipment that is not working properly from service and place a work order for equipment.

Requirements

  • LPNs require visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity.
  • This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting of at least 35 pounds.
  • Transferring/lifting patients and objects may be required.
  • Staff may be required to don protective equipment in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
  • They may also be exposed to patients who are combative, secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.
  • Travel between VA EKHCS campuses and to CBOCs may be required.
  • The LPN must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
  • They may be exposed, on a short-term basis to fumes, dust, and other debris.
  • This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as EKHCS is a 24/7 hospital, and the LPN is identified as an essential worker.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a surgical or specialty clinic setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, post-operative care, and wound management.
  • Proficiency in administering medications, performing assessments, and providing patient education.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Benefits

  • Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
