The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) supports individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness. DBHDS operates 12 facilities, including 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. These state facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or substance use disorder services. DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians. This specific position is located at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SVMHI), a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility in Danville, VA. DBHDS is seeking dedicated, experienced or new graduate Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join their team. The LPN provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, utilizing skills appropriate to their level of training and competency, based on the patient’s individual treatment plan. The role also involves assisting patients with activities of daily living, teaching, and encouraging self-care skills. Positions are available for the day shift (7:00 am - 7:30 pm) LPN float pool, working 12-hour shifts on a non-rotating Pitman schedule. This position may require working overtime and will include weekends on a rotating basis. New hires must complete a consecutive 4-week New Employee Orientation for on-the-job training, with orientation hours from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm for Week 1 and then as scheduled by the Nurse Educator for Weeks 2-4, which will include some day shifts.
