About The Position

Our correctional center (Riverhead) is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team. The Licensed Practical Nurse will be primarily be responsible for administering medication and attending to the medical needs of inmates. This LPN position will be included in the Medication Assistance Treatment Program. There will also be opportunities to work with inmates on a one-on-one basis as well as participate in community outreach programs. The successful candidate will support the goals of our correctional center, which is to bring safety and security to both inmates and staff by maintaining positive relationships with the public. Riverhead Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 am Key Elements Of The Role: Patient data entry into the "MAT" Spreadsheet and calendar Administering all "MAT" Related medications/injections: (Subclade, Vivitrol) Document all "MAT" related information, in particular medication administration on the Mars, Nextgen and any related log booklet. Assists physicians or physician's assistant while performing exams for inmates; Assists inmates with personal care needs as required; Assists with medical procedures and treatments such as taking and recording vital signs; Performs technical procedures such as EKG, visual acuity testing, GC culture smears (Gonorrhea test), PPDs (skin test-tuberculosis); Performs venipunctures and takes blood samples; Assists in making daily reports and keeping adequate inventory records of medication and medical supplies; May administer medication to inmates as established through a protocol and under the direction of a physician or physician's assistant; May assist in the administration of first aid in emergency situations; May perform clerical duties including the filing of medical records. Necessary Special Requirements: Candidate must possess or, for those with limited permits obtain, within one year, a current registration issued by the State of New York to practice as practical nurse, and must maintain a valid registration throughout employment in this title. Depending upon assignment, candidate may be required at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Requirements

  • Possession of a license or a limited permit issued by the State of New York to practice as a Practical Nurse.
  • Candidate must possess or, for those with limited permits obtain, within one year, a current registration issued by the State of New York to practice as practical nurse, and must maintain a valid registration throughout employment in this title.
  • Depending upon assignment, candidate may be required at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
