About The Position

The Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) operates a centralized DNA/TB laboratory responsible for offender DNA collection and Tuberculosis testing. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide DNA collection (buccal swabs), administer Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Tests (TST), record results in the SMART system, and maintain accountability for all samples and supplies.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Graduate of an Accredited Licensed Practical Nursing School/Program.
  • Hold a full, current, and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nursing license in the District of Columbia or any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Be trained in universal precautions and infection control standards.
  • Complete annual TB testing or submit chest x-ray documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and CSOSA policies for confidentiality and data handling.
  • Handle all samples and records to preserve the chain of custody and offender privacy.
  • Review daily SMART21 schedule for offender appointments.
  • Greet offenders and verify identity via government-issued photo ID.
  • Log each test and result on the daily tracking sheet and the SMART system.
  • Document "No Shows" and notify the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
  • Collect samples using Government-furnished FBI B Barcode Kits per FBI instructions.
  • For refusals or inability to collect, obtain a signed "Refusal to Submit DNA Sample" form and report to COR and Community Supervision Officer (CSO).
  • Secure all samples in the locked cabinet until the end of the day shipment to the FBI.
  • Administer 0.1 ml of PPD intradermally and record the reaction (48–72 hours).
  • Schedule and read test within 72 hours, document in SMART and TB log.
  • Refer positive cases to D.C. TB Clinic for further evaluation.
  • Maintain inventory of collection kits and supplies; notify COR of shortages.
  • Answer routine staff inquiries regarding DNA/TB testing processes.
  • Report daily issues, incidents, or safety concerns to COR.
