About The Position

Wentworth Health Partners Coastal Neurology Services has been providing adults and children with comprehensive and trusted care since 1983. Our board-certified physicians specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and management of an array of neurological disorders, including headaches, epilepsy, autism, ADHD, neuromuscular disease, neuropathy, sleep disorders, small-fiber polyneuropathy, stroke and more. Our Neurology practices are located at 10 Members Way in Dover, NH, and 73 Corporate Drive, Portsmouth, NH. We are seeking a 40-hour LPN to join our Neurology team Monday through Friday 8:30am-5pm. This role begins with a 90-day, fully onsite training period in the Dover and Portsmouth offices, which includes hands-on shadowing and close collaboration with providers and nursing staff to build familiarity with workflows and patient care protocols. Following successful completion of training, the role transitions to a blended work schedule, with one scheduled day per week onsite and remaining workdays performed offsite. The LPN will support our expert providers playing a key role in supporting patient care through administrative responsibilities. Daily tasks include managing in-basket messages through Patient Gateway, providing triage support, handling inbound and outbound phone calls, assisting with medication-related inquiries and refill requests, and conducting follow-up communication with patients. The role also involves significant computer-based work, requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma
  • Licensed Practical Nurse required

  • Licensed Practical Nurse [LPN - State License] -required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] -preferred
  • Medical experience 0-1 year preferred
  • Basic knowledge of patient education: interviewing and listening skills, teaching and engagement techniques, and understanding of health-related conditions and information.
  • Ability to accurately perform vital signs and obtain pertinent health information, including but not limited to: temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Ability to administer medication; routes of administration may include injections, intravenous, and oral medications.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests as appropriate to the clinical setting.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, clear, and concise manner.
  • The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities in a collaborative neurology setting.
  • Because of the nature of the patient population served, this role requires a strong Licensed Practical Nurse with at least 1 year of prior nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients about current problems, medications, and allergies, and reviews medical records for pertinent previous and current information.
  • Measure and record patients' vital signs.
  • Measure and record patients' vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Provide basic patient care and treatments, such as dressing wounds, treating bedsores, administering enemas or douches, applying alcohol rubs, massaging, performing catheterizations, administering routine immunizations, and/or providing nebulizer treatments and visual acuity tests.
  • Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse).
  • Communicates post-visit findings and participates in the plan of care, in coordination with the appropriate clinical staff
  • Performs a variety of office responsibilities: answers phones and takes messages, and performs triage within the scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collect samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
  • Assist patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, transferring in bed, and standing and walking.
