About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Special Outpatient Clinic provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Supervisor of Special Outpatient Clinic and in collaboration with orthopedic providers and the interdisciplinary care team. This position supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. The LPN is responsible for rooming patients, obtaining and documenting medical histories and vital signs, assisting with examinations and procedures, providing patient education related to orthopedic conditions and post-procedure care, coordinating diagnostic testing and referrals, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. The LPN also supports clinic workflow efficiency, maintains exam room readiness, adheres to infection control and safety standards, and contributes to a positive patient experience. This role reports directly to the Supervisor of Special Outpatient Clinic and works collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, and ancillary departments to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate orthopedic care delivery. Job duties include but are not limited to: Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples. Collects specimens utilizing proper technique for laboratory analysis. Performs point of care testing for all testing done in clinic. Provides patient care as directed by physician or advanced practice clinician and is able to make skilled judgements based on patient presentation and protocols in place. Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family interactions/responses, medications dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical record. Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and minor surgical procedures in the clinic setting. Ensures all patient information is in accurate locations of the patient chart for quality reporting and data extraction purposes. Coordinate and manage care of patients seen by provider including but not limited to following up and tracking testing, referrals. Stays informed of insurance requirements and guidelines for patient care. Performs prior authorizations and acts as patient advocate. Regularly monitors patients as appropriate to promote wellness and health maintenance including preventative and chronic care. Participates in the development of the plan of care with other team members and safely implements that plan. Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating provider advice/instructions. Works the provider workload and communicates with the care team. Performs prior authorization for medications Coordinates surgery scheduling with surgery department, ensures patient testing is completed prior to surgery Assist with in office procedures and injections Assist with cast applications and removals. Assist with brace fitting and education. Schedules, coordinates and communicates referrals to specialist and services ordered by the provider.

Requirements

  • Ability to multi-task, good organization skills, effective communication skills.
  • Completion of accredited Vocational/Technical Nursing Program
  • Unencumbered active Kansas nursing license
  • BLS
