About The Position

We are looking for dedicated and hard-working Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to work in the medical department at the Merrimack County Department of Corrections located in Boscawen, NH. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care and perform duties under supervision of an RN. Correctional nursing provides a challenging and exciting world of opportunities for nurses today, offering the chance to apply hands-on assessment and clinical nursing skills daily. Correctional healthcare is similar to working in an emergency room or a clinic, presenting both challenging and rewarding experiences. Nurses are involved in healthcare emergencies, physical health assessments, initial screenings, medication distribution, nurse sick call, and chronic care clinics, and also provide assistance to physicians, psychiatrists, and dentists. Requirements

Ability to multi-task
Good grasp of patient assessment skills
Licensed to practice nursing in the state in which the facility is located
Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the state of New Hampshire
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to function under supervision
Demonstrate clinical competency

Nice To Haves

Experience in correctional health care delivery system, a plus

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care
Ensure the proper flow of relevant information is communicated to appropriate personnel
Maintain, update and work with electronic medical records
Ensure that electronic medical records are secure
Maintain accurate records of all controlled substances, narcotics and sharps in accordance with applicable state and federal laws
Conduct sick call for inmate/patients and provide treatment for illnesses and injuries, defined by written protocol and approved by PCM Medical Director
Observe, report, and document symptoms, reactions and progress of inmates/patients
Participate in the formulation of the plan of care
Record, retrieve and file medical information in the inmate/patient medical record
Apply hands-on assessment and clinical nursing skills on a day-to-day basis
Be involved in healthcare emergencies
Perform physical health assessments
Conduct initial screenings
Perform medication distribution
Conduct nurse sick call
Manage chronic care clinics
Provide assistance to physicians, psychiatrists and dentists
