This unit cares for both medical and surgical patient populations. All Acute Care burn patients requiring dressing changes, surgical interventions, and management are cared for here. Procedural Short Stay (PSS) and Observation patients are the other focus for this department. Typical diagnoses for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine patients are asthma, bronchiolitis, dehydration/viral gastroenteritis, skin & soft tissue infection/cellulitis, unintentional toxic ingestion, and croup. Nurses may also care for medical patients with varying diagnoses who are expected to have a shorter hospital stay. The PSS surgical specialties in this department are: General Surgery, Ortho, ENT, Urology, Plastics/Craniofacial, Ophthalmology, and Dental. Some common diagnoses are tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy, appendicitis, extremity fractures, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and umbilical or inguinal hernia. Provides direct, routine nursing care and treatments to assigned patients according to plan of care, delivers individualized nursing care for each patient/family based on identified needs and utilizing internal and external inter-disciplinary resources as appropriate. Requires current license for the state in which the hospital or clinic is located (WI or IL). Two years experience in a hospital or clinic; experience in an adult/pediatric setting preferred. Requirements

  • Requires current license for the state in which the hospital or clinic is located (WI or IL).
  • Two years experience in a hospital or clinic; experience in an adult/pediatric setting preferred.
  • Currently registered with the State of Wisconsin Registry as an LPN.
  • Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross.
  • Graduate of LPN Program.
  • Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children’s values and support our mission and vision.
  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
  • Travel to all Urgent Care locations required.
  • Ability to work daytime, evenings, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Electronic Health Record proficiency preferred.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills necessary to work independently in a fast paced multi-functioned department.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to assist patients, parents, and providers, and other staff.
  • Required flexibility in order to prioritize efforts to meet needs of the patients, parents, providers, and other staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pediatric patients preferred.
  • Electronic Health Record proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities
