Job Summary: Location: Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital Address: 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA Work Schedule: This is a casual position; Mon-Fri 8am to 4:30pm with 1-2 consistent shifts available per week. Assist with and perform a variety of tasks in the Wound Care Clinic based on provider orders, best practices and provide instruction to patients in proper home care techniques.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
  • Minimum 3 years of wound care experience required.
  • Wound Treatment Associate Certification (WTA-C) through the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse Certification Board (WOCNCB) required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Current valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License, valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska or Iowa (work state) or temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Knowledge of medicine including recognizing and diagnosed diseases, deformities, and other illnesses.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules.
  • Skill to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Skill to proficiently type information into the computer to capture or detail information quickly.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with providers, staff and patients.
  • Ability to provide caring patient care services when talking with patients and their family members.
  • Ability to critically listen to questions from patients and information from providers to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve problems before they occur and avoid bigger problems in the future.
  • Ability to problem solve during several daily activities which includes the ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to learn and proficiently navigate through computer programs that contain patient information.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions/directions.

Responsibilities

  • Implement treatment plan established by the supervising Provider.
  • Remove and apply wound dressings as ordered in plan of care.
  • Utilize products as outlined in plan (e.g., remove and apply Unna Boot, Profore and compression wraps, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities to provide individualized service based on patient needs.
  • Provide on-going monitoring of the wound and the patient’s response to the established plan of care.
  • Ensure clinical documentation (e.g., wound measurements, appearance, etc.) is recorded in patient record.
  • Provide teaching and discharge instructions.
  • Participate in department Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Performs telephone triage to determine patient needs by recording and reporting patient condition to provider and advising patient based on provider instructions.
  • Receive and return calls within 90 minutes based on medical priority 95% of the time.
  • Accurately records and reports condition, according to department policy 98% of the time.
  • Provides test results according to protocol at least 98% of the time.
  • Maintain work areas to ensure healthy environmental conditions by cleaning and organizing equipment and rooms.
  • Completes weekly compliance checklist, per HBC/TJC policy.
  • Follows HBC/TJC protocol as it relates to high level disinfection at all times.
  • Prepares exam rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies.
  • Handles patient prescription supply orders according to provider protocols 99% of the time.
  • Prepares patient for provider exam by reviewing medical record, weighing patient, checking vital signs, performing medication reconciliation and obtaining information relevant to patient care.
  • Ensures accuracy of order entry and completes appropriate documentation without error at least 98% of the time.
  • Assists and/or performs/collects specimens according to standard procedure.
  • Properly handles and labels specimens per protocol
  • Assists and/or completes all prior authorizations as required by insurance for procedures such as Wound Vac and skin substitute applications.
