Position Summary: The Scrub Nurse LPN assists in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, sterilizing instruments, passing instruments during surgery, and ensuring aseptic technique is maintained. This role works under the supervision of an RN and in collaboration with the surgical team to ensure safe and effective patient care during operative procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of LPN experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Current and valid LPN license in the state of practice.
  • Current BLS certification
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Solid attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure individually and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating room with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure sterility of all instruments and equipment.
  • Perform surgical hand scrub and don sterile gown and gloves.
  • Assist in patient positioning and draping as required.
  • Function as scrub nurse during surgical procedures, passing instruments, sponges, and other items as needed.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after surgery.
  • Anticipate needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
  • Maintain sterile field and ensure adherence to aseptic technique.
  • Assist in wound closure and application of dressings.
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization and ensure proper cleaning protocols.
  • Assist with patient transfer from operating table to recovery bed.
  • Document intraoperative details according to facility protocol.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other OR personnel.
  • Report any concerns regarding patient safety or procedural complications.
  • Participate in pre-op briefings and post-op debriefings.
  • Special projects and other duties may be assigned as needed.
