The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) serves at the point of care at the Zablocki VA Medical Center. The Licensed Practical Nurse function is to provide quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population of varying complexity in a variety of settings - primary care, acute care, sub acute, rehabilitation, palliative and long-term care, inpatient, outpatient and home care. The Licensed Practical Nurse possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting.

Responsibilities
- Communicates and interacts appropriately and courteously with internal and external customers.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient/employee information electronically, verbally, and written.
- Works and functions within a safe manner including infection control and operation of equipment.
- Integrates and applies pertinent aspects of the Medical Center performance improvement program into his/her professional practice.
- Utilizes nursing research, evidence based practice and literature in daily practice.
- Provides care appropriate to the bio-psychosocial needs of the population served.
- Provides culturally competent care to a diverse patient population.
- Practices requirements include Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider, through the American Heart Association.
