About The Position

1. Meets with clients requesting to see the doctor to determine the urgency of their medical needs and expedite treatment as required 2. Effectively communicates concerns about patient health to the Medical Director and follows up as necessary 3. Under the supervision of the Medical Director & Assistant Director of Nursing, assists in educating clients about health problems and medical care 4. Facilitates medication education for new clients and for all other clients starting new medications and documents according to policy requirements. 5. Provides education and proper cleaning protocols for any equipment a client brings in and needs for a medical diagnosis and documents accordingly. 6. Meets with counselors to provide information about client medical problems 7. Assists the treatment team in incorporating medical issues into treatment planning 8. Takes verbal orders from the Medical Director, documents them in the client record and carries them out accurately and professionally 9. Administers medications when clients are unable to do so themselves 10. Is trained and able to draw blood for laboratory testing and understands that this may also include urinalysis tests as needed. 11. Nurse managers will monitor CLIA waived testing or laboratory results to determine if a change in the client’s treatment plan is needed. Nurse managers will coordinate with the Assistant Director of Nursing regarding recommendations. 12. Provides routine nursing care under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing 13. Participate in regular meetings with Director of Clinical Services to discuss specific client problems. 14. Participate in regular department meetings and staff meetings. 15. Encourage efficient utilization of supplies and equipment to prevent waste. 16. Maintains effective communication between outside medical services and the facility 17. Keeps and shares records and equipment 18. Participates in Performance Improvement, Utilization Review, Fire & Disaster Committees, and others as requested 19. Attends in-service education programs as assigned to learn new forms, procedures, developmental skills, etc. 20. Has good work habits: get things done in a timely, efficient manner with no excessive absences; is on time for scheduled shifts and prepared to begin work 21. Functions well as a team member and contribute positively to the morale of staff 22. Performs additional duties, as deemed necessary by supervisor 23. Maintains up-to-date training in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, Infection Control, Fire Safety, and other areas mandated by organizational policies 24. Communicates effectively with other staff members and demonstrates the ability to work as a team member 25. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability, responding positively to changing situations in the work setting 26. Demonstrates objectivity and maturity under stress 27. Accepts and utilizes supervision 28. Addresses problems noted by supervisor 29. Performs other assignments as requested by supervisor 30. Demonstrates willingness to accept responsibility 31. Completes all tasks with concern for work quality

Requirements

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in a chemical dependency/psychiatric setting, preferably in an inpatient, partial hospitalization and/or outpatient setting required.
  • Background clearance required.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice nursing in the appropriate state maintains current licensure per state requirements.
  • Maintains current CPR.
  • Skills and abilities: Knowledge of Joint Commission, CARF and ASAM Standards.
  • Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills.
  • Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality laws.
  • Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Violence.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Integrity & Compliance Program.
