U nder the supervision of the RN Supervisor and the Medical Director/Center Administrator, t he Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will perform routine treatments and services in the delivery of care to patients in UPO’s Comprehensive Treatment Center CCTC). The LPN must serve as a staff nurse in the Center and is responsible for daily work assignments assigned to the nursing staff; the primary job function is patient dosing. The LPN will provide information in educating patients regarding methadone medication and listen to patient concerns.

Requirements

  • Current LPN license to practice in the District of Columbia.
  • CPR certification.
  • Must be insurable for agency bonding and liability purposes.
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office programs and able to learn and use an electronic time keeping program.
  • Possess effective organizational and professional communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in English, in both oral and written forms.
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in addiction management medical environments.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal/state/District laws and regulations governing methadone management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer methadone medications and treatments with knowledge of purpose and adverse effects of nursing care provided.
  • Complete all documentation for observation, planning, and evaluation of care provided to patients, to include orders by physicians, calibrations, inventory of medication, etc.
  • Function in monitoring capacity as assigned for completion of patients’ care.
  • Maintain open lines of communication among nursing staff, as well as other departments, supervisor, physicians, and patients.
  • Act on patients’ behalf to ensure patient rights and to prevent patient abuse.
  • Act on first aid knowledge in emergencies.
  • Must be aware of safety issues, accomplishing responsibilities in a safe manner, and re-enforce good safety practices.
  • Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Conduct specimen collections to include breathalyzers, swabs, and urine testing.
  • Triage patients and assist physicians with examinations
