About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at WellSpan Medical Group in Chambersburg, PA, is a PRN role that provides safe, therapeutic, and efficient care to patients. The LPN functions as a member of the healthcare team at an intermediate nursing level, assisting in the planning and implementation of patient care based on sound nursing judgment, clinical preparation, knowledge, skills, and experience. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the provisions of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. The role includes performing various clerical office duties related to telephone management, receiving patients, and scheduling, with the ability to float to Medical Group practices as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provides extensive health education, counseling, and advice to patients and families on topics such as lifestyle changes, cholesterol lowering diets, and diabetic control.
  • Assesses patient educational needs, prioritizes learning needs, identifies barriers to learning, develops teaching plans, and uses various educational tools.
  • Tracks, reviews, and monitors follow-up of diagnostic test results under the direction of the provider.
  • Independently assesses patients/callers' health status based on presenting symptoms and determines the urgency for care.
  • Greets and registers patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Schedules patient appointments and manages necessary referral forms and pre-authorization forms.
  • Maintains patient records to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment.
  • Prepares and administers vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider.
  • Documents and processes prescription requests and refills per provider order.
  • Performs basic office procedures, examinations, and tests ordered by the provider.
  • Tracks, reviews, and monitors follow-up of diagnostic test results and relays information to patients.
  • Obtains and documents reason for visit and patient vital signs.
  • Assists providers with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Collects specimens as directed by the provider.
  • Ensures patient care areas are stocked with unexpired supplies and medications.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and maintains cleanliness of work areas.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Certificate from an accredited LPN program.
  • 1 year of previous clinical nursing experience.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse upon hire or Licensed Practical Nurse Multi State License upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
  • Must be able to type 30 words per minute with a zero error rate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
