About The Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at VITAS Healthcare plays a crucial role in providing nursing care to terminally ill patients enrolled in the VITAS program. This position requires adherence to the Nurse Practice Act in the state where the VITAS program operates. The LPN is responsible for delivering direct skilled bedside nursing care, evaluating the needs of patients and their families, and assisting in the development and execution of the interdisciplinary plan of care. The LPN performs selected nursing acts under the supervision of a registered nurse, which includes administering treatments and medications, evaluating the effectiveness of these treatments, and monitoring patients' reactions. It is essential for the LPN to document clinical notes accurately and maintain a clean and safe environment for both patients and their families. In addition to providing direct care, the LPN establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, encouraging their participation in the care plan to promote independence. The role involves initiating nursing protocols based on the patients' physical and mental well-being, which encompasses a range of activities such as positioning, mobilizing, and personal hygiene. The LPN also participates in patient and family education regarding the illness, treatment, and self-care practices. Furthermore, the LPN is expected to engage in professional growth through in-service programs and community educational offerings, and may participate in research activities as assigned. The position requires flexibility, as the LPN may be assigned to an on-call rotation and must be willing to work weekends or rotating shifts. This role is vital in ensuring that patients receive compassionate and competent care during their end-of-life journey.
