Position Summary The LPN Personal Care Unit Licensed Practical Nurse delivers quality nursing care to patients through interpersonal contact and provides care and services to allow patients to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and MUSC Health standards. Reports to Director of Nursing (DON) or other nursing supervisor Working Conditions Attends and participates in continuing education programs Works in department as well as throughout facility Subject to frequent interruptions Involved with patients, care team members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc. Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses

Requirements

  • Must have attended an accredited LPN program
  • Must be currently licensed/registered in applicable State.
  • Must maintain an active Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) license in good standing throughout employment.
  • One (1) year geriatric nursing experience preferred
  • Must have CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation. CPR certification must remain current during employment.
  • Must have advanced knowledge in field of practice
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must be knowledgeable of skilled nursing facility practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing longer term care and short term rehabilitation functions in the post-acute care facility
  • Must have the ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of clinical services department
  • Must perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: direct nursing care, nursing leadership, patient rights, and safety and sanitation
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all care team members, vendors, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Must understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
  • Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to MUSC Health's Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
  • Must demonstrate dependable, regular attendance
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience required.
  • Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
  • A current CPR card is required; either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to patient centered care philosophy as evidenced by effective communications skills, professional demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and motivation to articulate and support departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations.
  • Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
