About The Position

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a Casual FTE, Monday - Friday, hours ranging between 7:30am to 5:15pm. This position is for the Saint Paul Clinic in Saint Paul, MN. Ideal candidate will be able to pick up 1-2 shifts per week. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position exists to administer family-centered nursing care to patients, advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and/or provide skilled assistance in navigation of the health care system as appropriate to the developmental, cultural, emotional, and medical, surgical, or rehabilitative needs of the patient and their families. Nurses’ duties and title are determined by their work setting or patient population served. The role and scope of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) is aligned with the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Nurse Practice Act (MN Statute Section 148.171). Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient’s condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning. Compensation & Benefits Information The hourly wage for this opportunity is $27.14 to $35.34. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees.

Requirements

  • Current Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from the MN Board of Nursing
  • Documentation of completion of a practical nursing program (LPN program)
  • Current certification in CPR-BLS for Health Care Providers by the American Heart Association is required. If candidate holds CPR for healthcare providers through other acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to start employment but must complete CPR – BLS for Health Care Providers through American Heart Association within one month of hire.
  • Must be interested in working with people with short term or long-term disabilities that begin in childhood.
  • Physically able to work hours required and meet physical demands of the position.
  • Excellent customer service skills

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care – Delivers patient care which optimizes the patient’s health status and outcomes through the use of the nursing process.    Demonstrates thorough focused assessments.  Collaborates in the development and modification of individualized plans of care that are evidence-based.  Successfully implements interventions within a plan of care or as delegated/assigned by a registered nurse.   Effectively prioritizes.  Evaluates patient care based on desired outcomes.  Communicates patient-related nursing data and information to enhance active and informed decision making by patients, families, nurse colleagues, and other healthcare providers. 
  • Family centered care - Provides nursing care and health education reflecting specific patient, family, cultural and community needs.   Identifies the learning needs of the population served.  Implements an effective teaching plan.  Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.  Seeks opportunity to evaluate effectiveness of health education as culturally and developmentally appropriate.  
  • Autonomous Practice – Exercises independent judgment that influences care and demonstrates understanding of potential clinical implications.  Assigns nursing activities/tasks to other LPNs or unlicensed personnel, and provides care based on the abilities and limitations of care personnel and patient acuity.  Identifies and incorporates evidence based improvements into own daily work. 
  • Procedures and Policies –Identifies, interprets, and implements organizational policies and procedures according to regulations, professional and community standards.  Protects the confidentiality of personal health information. 
  • Active Engagement – Actively represents the department in committees, task forces, unit activities or other work groups and disseminates information and decisions to colleagues and peers using the Engaged Professional Practice Model. This includes attending a minimum of 75% of department staff meetings.  Ensures accountability through the use of dashboards and promote transparency through reporting of near misses and medical errors.  Demonstrates meaningful contributions to the productivity of the professional environment of the department.  Supports work of Nursing Collaborative Governance initiatives.
