About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider, the Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides wound-related and other basic nursing care to the center's patients according to all the hospital policies and procedures, care and safety protocols, and Clinical Services Practice Guidelines.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the LPN diploma program or Associate's degree is required.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) though the American Heart Association is required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated organization, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory/accrediting requirements for healthcare organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with others and in a team environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to stay calm in all situations.
  • Working knowledge of computerized nursing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies special needs of patients including medication and equipment requirements and communicates needs to procedural staff as well as identify and respond to patient/family educational needs and teaches in accordance with current clinical practice of standards.
  • Contacts patients before their procedure to discuss prep instructions, sedation options, anticoagulation adjustments, and other requirements for a successful procedure as well as manages consults so they display the proper state and are within the established time standards.
  • Recognizes and monitors age-specific and/or cultural needs of patients and modifies approach in planning of patient care.
  • Participates in research and departmental Performance Improvement activities, under direction of RN, when assigned.
  • Follows all evidence-based medicine and core measures as supported by Maria Parham Health.
  • Utilizes supplies and resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • May function as a Documentation Assistant (scribe) in accordance with policy.
