About The Position

This position is responsible for providing continuity and coordination of nursing activities within the Imaging department. This position is accountable for providing expertise for all ages from neonatal/newborn to adults. The patient acuity ranges from stable outpatients to critically ill patients. The Central Louisiana Surgical Hospital provides specialized care for patients with specific, non-critical and non-emergent surgical admissions. The ultimate goal of the facility is to assist patients throughout their stay to a successful recovery, by providing a setting and care that is a more effective delivery of health care. This is accomplished by providing a comfortable home-like setting, in which a caring professional staff works to insure the highest level of patient care in a more cost-effective setting. Family support and involvement is promoted and encourage as well. This supports the patient’s self-image as “other-wise healthy” and facilitates a speedier return to the community, reducing health care costs and strengthening the economy at large. The surgical hospital offers procedures for the following specialties: ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopedics, pain management, plastic surgery, podiatry and urology. In addition to surgical services, Central Louisiana Surgical Hospital has an imaging department comprised of MRI, CT, general radiology and ultrasound, as well as laboratory, pharmacy and dietary services. The facility provides a full-time staff of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, technicians and other ancillary personnel for patient care in the perioperative setting. In addition, the facility has available necessary equipment and trained personnel for handling unforeseeable emergencies.

Requirements

  • Current LPN license.
  • Current PALS and ACLS certification

Responsibilities

  • In the absence of an on-site RN within the department, the LPN will collaborate with and escalate clinical concerns to the supervising RN or provider to ensure appropriate assessment, care planning, and discharge determination.
  • Obtain vital signs and observes patient health status before, during and after imaging procedures.
  • Obtain peripheral intravenous access (IV). Administer non-IV medications as per physician orders.
  • Review examination orders for pertinent clinical information, considers the needs of patient and requirements for the exam in conjunction with department policy and procedures.
  • Complete necessary health questionnaire and review medical history.
  • Prepare and support patients for imaging procedures and explain the process.
  • Perform hand-off communication and collaborate with Radiology Technologist for each patient.
  • Monitor foley catheter as needed.
  • Performs specimen collection for laboratory testing as required by department policy and procedures. To include documentation of test results with notification to physician of any critical results.
  • Address patient discomfort and anxiety during imaging procedures.
  • Patient monitoring and recognition of emergent conditions to include medication reactions.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and patient records.
  • Collaborate with Radiology Technologist in completion of discharge summary and patient instructions.
  • Provide and educate patients and their families about post-procedure care.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of MRI safety and radiation safety.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform all necessary computer operations to include PACS system.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and facility related information. Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
