About The Position

Under general supervision, independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions for physically ill, disabled, or geriatric residents in an assigned nursing unit and shift. Carries out assigned nursing policies and procedures. Administers medication, injections, and treatments. Observes, records, and reports to physicians, registered nurses, or the supervisory nurse the symptoms, reactions, and changes in residents conditions. Provides for the emotional, physical comfort and security of residents. Assists in maintaining working and living areas and supplies in good order. Assists in providing guidance to nursing assistants relative to nursing techniques. Performs selected nursing functions in situations which do not require the specialized knowledge and skill of a registered nurse. Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated .above The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is a state agency designed to empower veterans and their families to thrive. Requirements

  • Requires Illinois license as a practical nurse.
  • Requires one (1) year of practical nursing experience.
  • Requires ability pass a background check.
  • Requires ability meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires ability pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)).Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
